Get pain meds..: Probably the best thing for now is to go to your dentist and/or see your doctor to find out what pain meds. You can have during and after the procedure. For yourself, simple pain meds., like aspirin, tylenol, (acetaminophen) or advil may also help..

Take pain meds : You wont feel pain until the numbness goes away so taking some pain medication before the anestetic is totally gone will help you get a jump on the pain. Take the meds every 4 hours until you feel you don't need them. You may find that there is very little post operative pain if your extractions are typical and the teeth are not impacted in bone.

Clear your schedule: Pain associated with wisdom teeth extractions is unfortunately expected. Be sure to eat a good meal the day before and be prepared to be a couch potato for a couple of days. Try to use ice on your cheeks to slow swelling, use anti-inflammatory medications for the 1st 2 days every 4-6 hours, no heavy exercise for at least 24 hours, better 48--control inflammation and you control most of the pain.

Take prescribed meds: There is some level of discomfort associated with any surgery, as well as surgery for removal of wisdom teeth. The best way to manage and control pain is to take the prescribed pain medication before the local anesthetic wears off, and then as prescribed. Ice packs immediately postop will also help reduce the level of swelling and pain.

Premedication: Premedication starting a day before wisdom teeth extractions with a mild steroid (decadron) and an anti-inflammatory (motrin) will do wonders at keeping swelling and pain under control after the procedure. Review this with your treating dentist.
