Blood loss ?: Acute blood loss, when significant, can cause symptoms, such as light-headedness, pale and clammy skin, headache, rapid heartbeat, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness and shock. If your wife is having symptoms with a heavy flow early in the menstruation, you'd best run this by your OB and get their input on your wife's headaches. This may be a treatable condition, depending on the reason.
