Stress Fracture: You may have a fracture or stress fracture in the area. You do not state your age but you could also have apophysitis, an inflammation of the joints in the area. See your doctor for further evaluation and possibly xrays too

Been getting these attacks of bone pain mostly along fifth metatarsal in foot. No injury I can get them while at rest in bed. What's the cause?
Could a healing fracture of 3rd and 4th metatarsal cause intense pain in those toes? I don't remember injuring the foot to cause this.
