Thrombocytopenia: Platelets are small cells in the blood that stick to the wall of a blood vessel following injury to stop bleeding. When you have low platelet count which is also called thrombocytopenia your ability to form clots and stop bleeding is impaired. Common symptoms of thrombocytopenia are easy bruising, joint pain, bleeding gums, nose bleeds , and tiny skin bleeds known as petechiae .
