Gynecomastia, benign: enlargement of breast tissue, occurs in up to 70 % of males during puberty. It is caused by a normal, transient relative imbalance between female & male hormones. It usually resolves by 18 when adult ratios are achieved. He does need to see his pediatrician for an exam to determine if there's any need for lab tests. His doctor can educate & reassure him that it should be gone by 18.
