A member asked:

Can you take prenatal vitamins for no particular reason, or would that overdose you with vitamins?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not harmful: A prenatal vitamin would not be harmful. However, if you get a good, balanced diet, you would not need it, with one exception; a supplement of 400 micrograms daily of folate (folic acid) (found in multivitamins and prenatal vits) is recommended for women even before they get pregnant to reduce the risk of some birth defects in the babies. A good iphone resource for preventive topics is my health checklist 2012.
