Several: There are several causes of vitamin A deficiency including inadequate intake or alcohol consumption or iron deficiency. This is a common problem affecting about 1/3 of kids worldwide under age 5 and can cause blindness. It is generally lacking in the diet of millions and the younger the child affected, the worse the effects can be. Adding foods with vitamin A or supplements are very helpful.
