You should get a second opinion.: 5 feet eight and 105 pounds puts your body mass index at 16.0. This is a dangerously low body mass index, putting you at higher risk of multiple diseases, including the higher risk of death, than someone with a healthy body mass index. For your height, your minimum safe weight, according to CDC guidelines would be 122 pounds.

Consult: Talk to your doctor again and voice your concerns. If you still question his judgment, get a second opinion.

FInd a new doctor: You should probably see a specialist, like a Board Certified Psychiatrist. I see adult patients all the time, who have been diagnosed with ADHD; but whom actually have other conditions. If you are losing 25 pounds on Ritalin, (methylphenidate) clearly it isn't for you. The fact that your doctor would insist on the same dose with such an extreme weight loss, says to me, he or she likely doesn't know what to do.

Seek Consultation: In the face of significant weight loss, Ritalin (methylphenidate) and medications like it can cause weight reduction. I suggest you immediately see another psychiatrist and /or your family physician as soon as possible.

Consider 2nd Opinion: You want to be sure that you understand the treatment plan and why your doctor would not want to reduce Ritalin (methylphenidate) especially if you have had a dramatic weight loss. It would also seem reasonable that you should have a second opinion.

25 lb weight loss.: I am responding to your significant weight loss, which could well be a medication side effect. I would strongly urge a second opinion ASAP, as your communication with your psychiatrist seems conflicted.
