Not good: Could get worse. Waiting to treat could make it even worse .

Time to stop tennis: I assume from the diagnosis you have seen an ortho or podiatrist. If you continue to play, you could develop a trar of the peroneal tendon or avukse the tendon from the bone. Better to miss playing time, than risk surgery that will effect your ability to work.
