Looks like he's not: For non-sterile procedures like drawing routine blood samples, medical staff wear gloves to help protect themselves from diseases that patients might have. Wearing gloves has become commonplace in the U.S., partly because we always have gloves available for use, and they are relatively cheap here. (For sterile procedures, gloves are needed to prevent contaminating the patient's sterile area.)
