A member asked:

Which is more reliable, an hiv duo test (antibody/antigen) at 30 days or a rapid result finger prick antibody test at 7 weeks?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

HIV: HIV testing should be done repeatedly up to 3 months, but some would recommend longer. The best test would be a PCR for HIV RNA, but this is expensive. The duo test checks for p24 antigen and antibody and should be positive in most people at 30 days, but there are rare instances of false-negative results. The question about which is best cannot be answered and is irrelevant.
