Several things: Many things can alter taste including nasal infection, allergy, indigestion, certain foods, alcohol and less commonly some medications. Speak to your family physician to try to run down a possible cause.

Complex: Rapid change in taste,which is a combo of taste buds and sense of smell, has a array of causes. Since it was overnight, a viral,bacterial, or parasitic infection can damage taste buds.High zinc products, hormonal changes, pregnancy, contaminated food, excessive tongue brushing, poorly controlled diabetes, oral radiation, any upper respiratory tract infection could be the problem. Exam: these are puzzling symptoms which require exam and evaluation, preferably ENT- I would advise warm water ( not salt water) gargles and avoid all OTC medication until evaluated.
