Good plan: Just follow your doctor's advice and taper off the Vicodin slowly. If the withdrawal symptoms are mild, your doctor may recommend that you stop taking Vicodin all together.

I am confused: Why are you taking it so regularly? Is there still pain? Are you taking it on a schedule? Twice daily vicodin usually doesn't need to be weaned due to tolerance. If so each dose should be lowered (not the # of doses at the frequency you are using). If you are still in pain- addres the pain

Not likely dependent: vicodin is a short-acting drug, and taking it twice daily will rarely result in significant physical dependency, such that a withdrawal syndrome will occur. It could probably be stopped abruptly without any problems, and doing it once a day for 5 days probably isn't necessary, but couldn't hurt.

Weaning narcotics: You can do that. After being on the Vicodin for 45 days straight, I would suggest breaking the Vicodin tablet in half and then take one-half tablet three times daily for 1 week then one-half tablet twice daily for 1 week then one-half tablet daily for one week. You would minimize any short-term increase in your perceived level of pain and find the weaning process less onerous.
