A member asked:

Pulmonologist prescribed keflex 250 mg. for bacterial bronchitis. would ceftin (cefuroxime) or cefzil work better due to broader bacterial spectrum?

Cepphalosporins: same class of drugs, Ceftin (cefuroxime) stronger, Cezil also stronger, but more gI side effects. Keflex is the most affordable for a routine infection.

Yes and No: Yes and No. Cefzil and Ceftin (cefuroxime) are second generation cephalosporins, where as Keflex is a first generation. The second generation drugs have better gram-negative coverage however they have not as good gram-positive coverage for bacteria. It depends on which bacteria is being treated.
