Depends: It depends on the size of the goiter and what the underlying cause is. Is it very big? Is it painful? Do you have a cough, difficulty swallowing or breathing? Goiters can be caused by iodine deficiency (not common in developed countries) or by a over-active or under-active thyroid. You should have your thyroid levels checked if you haven't already.
