Can you get a goitre after a thyroidectomy?

Not if: You had a total thyroidectomy and have been taking adequate brand name T4 replacement to keep your levels normal. If only a portion of your thyroid was removed and you're not on replacement, it's certainly not only possible but likely.

Yes: I have patients that have had half of the gland removed. The other half can then continue to grow and need to be removed. This is rare and may take many years to develop. Most have no problem. It would be even rarer if the remnant were very small.
