Not a good idea: If you are not a diabetic or someone with pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome or someone with polycystic ovary syndrome, do not take it. It helps people with PCOS become pregnant. It is not a form of birth control. Oral contraceptives can also regulate periods and suppress ovulation, if pregnancy isn't desired at this point. Hypoglycemia isn't a fun experience.

Metformin: Hi, Yes, Metformin will help regulate the period and increase the chance of ovulation in women with diagnosis of Polycystic ovary. Some people develop upset stomach and diarrhea with Metformin, but it tends to get better with time and also increasing the dose slowly.

Depends: Depends on the cause of your period irregularity. Glumetza is approved for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) so if that is what you have, then it should help you. If you don't have diabetes or PCOS then it probably won't help you. See your GYN for the best treatment.
