How long can someone go without their thyroid med?

1 week: 1 week after stopping thyroid meds you will start to get symptoms and your thyroid blood level will become abnormal. Make sure you take your thyroid meds regularly. Keep your thyroid meds next to your tooth brush to remind you to take every morning regularly at the same time.

Why are you asking?: Hypothyroidism does not self correct. Once diagnosed one must take the thyroid supplement everyday. It would probably be okay to skip for the dose for a few days but I wouldn't stop taking it altogether. If you forgot your meds on a short vacation,(a week or less), I wouldn't worry too much. Any longer, call your doctor for a prescription, he or she can call it in to a local pharmacy.
