Variable: As long as the swelling does not represent an abscess, the redness should resolve within 7-10 days. Avoid scratching it. Keep it clean and apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream. If the area becomes painful or hot or is enlarging in size think of infection and see your doctor about an antibiotic or drainage.
