Anti inflammatory : "Blood Blisters" did they mean lung contusion? Did he suffer any trauma to the chest? Broken ribs? In that case he needs an anti-inflammatory to control the pain. He will cough when he takes a deep breath if his lung was not fully expanded. It is important to control the pain and breath deeply to avoid a pneumonia/ lung infection.

Huh?: Doesn't make sense. Should probably call the ER and get better explanation of his situation but is most assuredly not a blood blister. Suppression of his cough depends upon the cause which at this point is unknown. Dextromethorphan is an over the counter cough suppressant. If he is having significant shortness of breath I would certainly talk to or visit the ER again.
