High level athlete. after full exertion race,i feel very uncomfortable burning sensation in right chest. very painful, hurts to breath. mouth tastes like blood and develop a persistent congested cough for 10+ hours.why does the body respond this way?

Post exertion: Strenuous exercise probably causes post exertional bronchial irritation and there may also be a type of exercise induced asthmatic cough as well. This may or may not be accompanied by some wheezing. A consultation with a pulmonologist would be helpful for diagnosis and treatment advice. Using a bronchial dilating inhaler like albuterol may prevent these post exertional respiratory tract symptoms
