My husband has shingles how do i protect my family and myself from getting infected?

Not usually an issue: You can't get shingles from someone who has shingles -- but if you have not been vaccinated against chicken pox (or if you never had it), you can get chicken pox from someone who has shingles. Fortunately, most kids have been vaccinated, and most adults had chicken pox as kids.

Shingles risks: More than likely you've already had the chickenpox given your age-that means you have the same virus as your husband-it just hasn't come out yet, because it's 'asleep' in your nerve roots. Avoid stress, major illnesses, trauma to keep your immune system healthy & prevent a shingles outbreak. For other family members, see if they can be vaccinated if not naturally exposed to chickenpox. Yes when active: for family members who are pregnant or have not had chicken pox or are not vaccinated
