Highly variable: Portal hypertension is secondary to cirrhosis and does not cause it. Your life expectancy and stability are dependent upon the cause of your liver damage and whether or not the active disease has been interrupted by therapy. Good luck.

Take care ofyourself: If you already have portal hypertension as a complication of your liver disease, you probably have had cirrhosis for awhile. There is no "40% working" - best markers are those of synthetic function. get the underlying cause treated if possible (?HCV), stay as healthy as you can. But no, unlikely to remain 'stable always'.
