Depends: What was your capacity PREOP? Generally 5-8 pounds with multiple repeats is well tolerated The goal is to avoid pain or hernia in incisions. Open versus laparoscopy.Your surgeon knows your tissues and the closure- so that is your accurate source.

Hard to quantify: First, this will depend on the type of gallbladder surgery you had. Open cholecystectomy typically has a longer recovery period due to the larger incision, while laparoscopic surgery tends heal faster. While most patients can return to regular activities within a few weeks, I cannot stress enough the importance of asking your surgeon, as many factors can affect this answer.

10 pounds: I restrict patients to 10 pounds or less for six weeks. This is so you don't stress the abdominal wall and cause a hernia.
