Depends: Sometimes a depressive episode for someone with bipolar disorder can come out of nowhere. Other times, a depressive episode may follow a manic or hypomanic episode. Situations and events that are stressful, chronic stress, or drugs and alcohol, among other things can also lead to a depressive episode. It is important to maintain wellness and healthy activities to prevent these episodes.
