Muscles, rib cage: There are muscles on both surfaces (front and back) of the scapula (shoulder blade). Other muscles control movement of the scapula on top of the rib cage. Pain in the area can be muscular or due to other tissues in the area. It can also be from problems in the neck or mid back.
