Only definitive test: Best option for determining any type of nerve compression neuropathy, no good alternative to determine point of compression. All other studies are just looking at area of potential compression not mapping out the nerves ability to conduct impulses. Do not recommend gin as a sedative. If anxious discuss with the neurologist about some type of appropriate sedative to help you out.

Buck up, Dennis: I've had 3 EMG/NCSs. The nerve conduction test part is mildly uncomfortable. The electromyogram is where they stick little electrodes in e.g. your toe and tell you to move the toe. There ARE painful moments there, but that part usually lasts only about 5 min, 10 tops. Don't drink before. The IMPORTANT question always is: Will the results change MANAGEMENT? Never shy away from asking that.
