Normal: If you sprained the ucl and rcl of the thumb mp joint anticipate 4 months for acute swelling and inflammation to resolve and up to 8 months for the thumb to feel normal. If you have any instability i.e.; grade 3 sprain then may require reconstruction or repair to attain adequate stability to overcome persistent pain.
