Thumb trauma: Trauma to the thumb joint can cause symptoms that persist, if the muscles and ligament were strained. Gently stretch, squeeze a tennis ball for exercise, and see if it improves. Usually a fracture would cause persistent swelling and more severe pain and limitation. Hand Therapy to strengthen and brace the thumb could help if it doesn't get better. Xray/consult if no recovery.
