Not likely: Surgery is usually a last line treatment in nerve root compression, as it can often make things worse rather than better. There are myriad other options to try first. Consult your neurologist, to see if more conservative options like medicine or injections are appropriate for you. If at any time you develop new weakness or incontinence, go to the ER.
