Much more: You should be taking 50,000 once a week for 6 weeks and then 5,000 to 10,000 IU a day. To keep your vitamin D 25 (OH) 76-100 ng/dL. Or you can take 10,000 IU a day, but it will take longer to achieve good level in serum.

600 IU daily: 20 ng/mL or less is deficiency; 12-29 is insufficiency; 30 and over is OK. Modifiable risk factors for vit D deficiency include include obesity, less milk intake, TV over 4 h daily and limited exposure to sunlight. Medication factors include the classes of oral corticosteroid, anti-seizure, anti-estrogen and anti-retroviral drugs. Take 600 IU daily, and discuss with your doctor. Hope that helps.

I would: Avoid doses larger than 4000 IU per day unless you know that you have some compromised gut absorption. Most people do fine in the range of 1000-2000 IU per day. Remember that presently that is only consider a mild deficiency by most "society/associations". It isn't clear that pushing your vitamin D levels to high levels is actually beneficial; just be mindful in your supplementation goals.
