My son is being referred to a hematologist. he has low rbcs and low reticulyte count after 2weeks of iron drops. should i be worried?

He's getting: an anemia work up. Loss of blood is one issue, iron given, low retic count my indicate lack of production, a bone marrow is one of the next test to see if other cells (whites and platelet) are working.
