ACOUSTIC TRAUMA: Acoustic trauma occurs when excessive sound energy strikes the inner ear and damages the hair cells. If it is brief, the noise may cause a reversible, temporary hearing loss or threshold shift. After such trauma, it is common to experience hearing dullness and ringing in the ears for several hours.
