Statin therapy: Other than a lipid panel there is no specific blood test required before starting a statin. Talk with a prescribing physician,a thorough physical history and examination and judicious blood tests would be appropriate

Liver functions.: Being the risk of adverse events can be elevated in people taking statins who have pre-existent liver dysfunction, screening for such with a liver function panel prior to starting a statin might be wise.
