Updated Tetanus?: Did you get a tetanus shot during the ankle infection? Have you had a fever or tight muscles? You should discuss your symptoms with you doctor soon. You may need additional imaging to ensure there is nothing more going on. Tetany or bone infections can be serious if left untreated.

RETURN TO DR: You should return to your treating doctor. It may be nothing. However, if the object causing the puncture went deep enough to touch the bone and infect the bone, this should be ruled out first w/ an x-ray and blood work, then maybe a bone scan or MRI. Do you have a fever? Dr. Latva
