No: Acute hepatitis caused by alcohol will present with elevated ALT/AST. You can have cirrhosis of the liver with normal ALT/AST for quite a while, however.

Absolutely: The secret is to stop drinking which you may have already done.If the labs are normal thats great, usually AST would be elevated, up to twice ALT. A liver panel is used to screen for liver damage, especially if someone has a condition or is taking a drug that affects the liver.Liver panel test results are not diagnostic of a specific condition;they indicate that there may be a problem w/the liver.
