Pancytopenia: The next part of the evaluation will be to do a bone marrow biopsy. This will be to understand if the marrow is producing normal blood cells and to help determine why the numbers are decreased.

Depends: How worrying for you! The good news is that sometimes an infection or a medicine can cause this & will resolve with time. Obviously, your doctor has begun a work-up, & the lab test is just one part of it. The diagnosis depends on more than the result of 1 test. Since your doc was smart enough to check lab work, then chances are excellent that you can count on good evaluation and advice,

Pancytopenia: I am very concerned with the sudden onset pancytopenia. The child needs a full workup including bone marrow biopsy. The differential is long and scary. Seek a pediatric Hematology specialist as soon as possible.
