Therapy may help you: If the cause of the depression is a problem that will diminish with time (like grief over a loved-one's death), you will probably be able to stop. If, as in many people, the depression is a long-lasting problem, you will need continued medicine, but may benefit from therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist

Not necessarily: this is not always a lifetime medication; however, different degrees of depression require different lenghts of therapy. I suggest that you posr this question to your physician.
