A member asked:

Can you tell me about pancreatic cancer surgical procedure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Whipple most common: Surgery is most often performed for lesions of the head of the pancreas, the pancreatoduodenectomy or Whipple. When dx made by transduodenal biopsy of lesion seen on scan, the lesion has to be well localized, without any spread, even to lymph nodes and can not involve the superior mesenteric vein which passes under the neck to form portal vein. Only 10% of patients diagnosed can have surgery.
