What is the average life expectancy for a person with pancreatic cancer and who had the whipple procedure?

Average at 5 years: Is 10- 15 %. It depends on the pathology. What was the final stage, and nodal status? These things will help give and outcome and life span guess. Remember all the information is an estimate. I would review the path report with the surgeon to get a better idea for an individual.

Lymph nodes: The most important variable for survival for patients after the whipple procedure (provided they survive the surgery itself, and presuming that the cancer has been completely removed) has generally been lymph node involvement. This is generally the best indication that the pancreatic cancer has or has not spread beyond the initial site.

Depends on stage: Life expectancy will depend upon the reason for the procedure. For pancreatic cancers, the stage and aggressiveness of the tumor together with the completeness of the resection are the most important factors. For benign disease, there is potential for normal life expectancy.
