I am 16 weeks pregnant. i have been using listerine as part of my oral care routine. is this safe since it is alcohol based?

Avoid listerine: Systemic absorption of alcohol is in general very limited with Listerine / related products. However please note that in general there is no safe limit for any alcohol in pregnancy. best to avoid any form of alcohol in preg to avoid complications. Discuss with your dentist/PCP. Try brushing after each meal and salt water rinse etc instead to be safe. Also more frequent preventive dental cleaning

Yes: If used appropriately it should not be an issue. If you are drinking listerine to get drunk that is a different issue and that can have negative effects on the fetus

Don't swallow: As long as you do not swallow the Listerine the amount of alcohol absorbed is minimal. There are alcohol-free mouthwashes available at most drugstores. I believe Listerine even makes one.
