What is the success rate for xifaxan (rifaximin) for a permanent cure of sibo after one use? i'm reading so many different numbers.

Maybe temporary fix: If U have ibs due to sibo (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)--antibiotics like xifaxan (rifaximin) may help (is being studied 4 repeat use). Sibo may also occur from anatomic variations in the small bowel, altered small bowel motility, or a variety of systemic conditions that prevent permanent cure (e.g. The bacteria just grow back). Xifaxan (rifaximin) is also curative for C.difficile in appropriate dose & setting.

Cure depends on Eti: Most authors recommend administering rifaximin for 7-10 d as one treatment course or as a cyclic therapy. Higher doses (1200 or 1600 mg/d) are more effective than standard doses (600 or 800 mg) Rifaximin is probably the only antibiotic that is capable of achieving a long-term favourable clinical effect in patients with irritable bowel and SIBO. Cure at this time depends on etiology.
