Doubt cancer based: on your description. It could be an inflamed sebaceous cyst, which is common in that area. If it swells up from time to time or gets a little red, then recedes, it is likely an inflamed skin cyst of some kind. These are essentially a deep acne cyst. Don't poke or squeeze it. Try to have your doctor look at it when it is sore or tender. It might be easier to diagnose then.
