A member asked:

Had a colonoscopy & laparoscopy for suspected endo the doctor removed 8 haemorrhoids is this normal? why couldn't the dr see them with just an exam?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on type: Hemorrhoids are typically classified as internal or external depending upon the location and blood source involved. External hemorrhoids can often be seen with a physical exam. However, internal hemorrhoids often can only be seen with some type of endoscopy. I suspect the hemorrhoids treated were likely the latter if they were not discovered on routine physical exam.
