A 60-year-old male asked:
Hi doctors. i've had situations where i don't have a bm for 3 to sometimes 4/5 days. i had a colonoscopy, and thank god i had only internal hemorrhoids and diverticulosis. if difficulty producing a bm comes up again, what could this be? what do i do?

Must not guess: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, fiber with water, prune juice, prunes, Miralax, Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... In an older adult, many possibilities means one's Dr follows closely the symptoms.
