Can i nurse while applying zovirax (acyclovir) ointment to my lip for treatment of a cold sore?

Yes: Just wash hands after applying it to be extra safe, but this drug is known to be safe when breastfeeding even if taken internally. We use it in babies all the time.

NO: Consult your Obstetrician but even a small amount of ZoVirax (acyclovir) will be absorbed into you blood. Your OB-GYN or Pediatrician can tell you if it is excreted in your milk,. In general would avoid any drugs except if absolutely necessary.
