Oral: I believe that oral antivirals are recommended (vice topical). Melissa officinalis or lemon balm (cream) expedites healing of cold sores. It can reduce healing time by half. Studies also show that regular use can help v recurrences. Brief supplementation with lysine 1, 000mg orally three times a day at the onset, can also hasten healing. Your physician can prescribe oral valtrex (valacyclovir).

I have a cold sore for 1 month. It is on the corner of my lips, so if I open my mouth by eating, yawning, it cracks again. Wound doesnt seem to heal. What should I apply there to heal? Is zinc cream ok or best to stick to acyclovir? Or what else?
On Sat saw tiny red bump on lip line. thought cold sore, started acyclovir pills & cream. The red bump grew, didnt burst, I popped it, long white head/pus followed by clear liquid. Still no scab or oozing despite pills, how will I know its healed?
So over a week ago I start having a cold sore outbreak and started taking prescribed acyclovir. The cold sores were scabbed over and going away until I woke up today with yellow skin around my mouth that burns but no new cold sores,what could this be?
