Chlamydia: You got it from him or a previous sexual partner. Period. No mystery. It does not arise out of nowhere. It also is a permanent infection until treated. It can live for years untreated. I know it is too late in your case. But all sexually active adults are taught by their physicians to get STD screening at the end of relationships and at the beginning of new relationships.

Sexually transmitted: You can get chlamydia by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has chlamydia. Chances of getting chlamydia lowered by being in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and has negative STD test results and using latex condoms the right way every time you have sex.

Basically two: Ways for you to have gotten chlamydia. The first way, one of you brought chlamydia into the relationship from a previous partner. The second way, one of you has not been monogamous . That's it.
