See a nutritionist: You need to sit down with a nutritionist and review the proposed diet. The kind of food isn't an issue. The important factors are the amount of different types of food that you eat and the timing throughout the day of your meals.

Diabetic Diet: There are plenty of opinions out there, but as with everything, moderation is key and individualize. I would limit simple carbs to about 150 grams a day or 50 per meal. There are some excellent resources like the American Diabetic Society and even sites from pharma companies like novo nordisk. Check your sugar 2 hours after a meal to see whether the meal you ate is good for you or not.
