Some do: LEEP was originally designed as an office procedure; I learned to do it that way in the 90s, and some doctors still do it. Many do it in an operating room with a general anesthetic. I won't say one is right and one wrong, it also seems to vary by region how it's generally done. You should voice your concern with the doctor who will be doing yours.

Twilight sleep's ok: The after-effects of general are so much worse than an twilight sleep IV type drug that you could be better off w/ that. Many say it's not that bad - less bad than root canals - so talk w/ the provider for opinions and w/ people who've had it if they'd be willing. A pain pill might be added. If you know relaxation techniques, do them before and after too. It should be okay - you'll get through it.
